  • Hello from Australia

    Hi

    I hope that most of you can understand English as i really need some help in regards to performance modifications for my beloved E34 535i

    I was wondering how common is it in Deutchland to Supercharge or Turbo my model BMW.

    The availability of either kits is very limited (infact nothing at all) and i would like to gain some more power for my vehicle.

    Don't forget that in Australia we drive on the left hand side and not the right so i'm not sure if that will make a difference in the kits available.

    Would anyone be able to link me to some shops that mail overseas? Either from Deutchland or England.

    Danke

    Chus

    Kris

        Re: Hello from Australia

        Hi Kris,
        it is not very common to supercharge the E34 in Germany.
        There are a lot of members from Australia on these boards, maybe they can help you out
        bimmer.info
        and
        http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/e34/

        A lot of people buy parts from USA, as they are much cheaper there than in Australia.
        http://home.earthlink.net/~hainesinutah/bmwvendors/
        BMA is often recommended, I buy usually from Autohaus Arizona.
        BTW: are you BigKriss?
        If so, you know me too, (shogun). And that would be your car

          Re: Hello from Australia

          Hi Erich

          Nah I'm not BigKriss but i do know him from another forum It seems the internet is a small world

          If supercharging isn't a common modification, what about turbocharging?

          The problem i have is that there is NOTHING in regards to forced induction modifications in this big island

          I have browsed bimmer.info but not much was mentioned about either topic. It seems that it's rare to do that kind of modification. I am also chasing some interior pannels for my car as my ones have peeled (glue has failed). Is there a cheap place i can get these? I got the brown/cream combination.

          Thanks for your help

          Kris

              Re: Hello from Australia

              I used the search engine on bimmer info with 'turbo charging'
              http://www.capa.com.au/eaton.htm

              Eaton superchargers.
              But I would not go for supercharging or turbo. Probably your engine will not last that long, and it has also a lot of km on the clock.
              That nees more extensive and expensive work on the engine.
              How about a chip?
              EAT is always recommended in USA

                Machtpur

                Not quite. That's just the top trim I need the entire toor panel (interior).

                Wish i could remember my deutch. I used to live in Leverkusen in 1986-88 when i was a kid. Can't remember anything now since i had to learn english.

                    Re: Hello from Australia

                    Do a search for the name Rigmaster on bimmer.info. He has on his farm in USA about 15 E34, some 2002 and other BMW and ships worldwide at good prices and is a reliable source.
                    His real name is Bret Luter.
                    I think also BigKriss might have some parts available, as he an another chap organized something.
                    Also ask in Bimmerboard, some people have spare cars.
                    I only have E32 750iL's and plenty of parts for these cars. At the moment 5 of them.

                      Re: Hello from Australia

                      Thanks Erich...that helps heaps

                      In regards to your above post about the EAT chip...i already got one and the performance increase was awesome...

                      Think the first thing i need to do is a AUTO to MANUAL conversion...but that's AU$3000 (about 1500 euro). That should improve my performance

                      Appart from that...what else can be done to improve performance without going the turbo charging route? Camshaft? Cold Air Intake? anything else?

                        Re: Hello from Australia

                        You have a speed limit in AUS. So you do not need a high max. speed. I would go for a different differential gear ratio to increase the acceleration. A used diff is normally not that expensive.
                        http://www.e34.de/e34/difftabelle.htm

                        And here you can play a bit around with the numbers
                        http://www.m-forum.de/calc/getriebe/index.html
                        Info:
                        S = Schalter=manual gear
                        A = Automatik = automatic transmission
                        T = Touring
                        TA = Touring Automatik

                        Conversion to manual transmission/gear is shown on my website on the link to Gale's page. He did it on an E32 735.
                        Cold air intake does not help in my opinion. Everyone is saying that the BMW intake system is very good. Except , it makes more noise and you get more dirt into the engine and the MAF.

                          Re: Hello from Australia

                          Considering i have the AUTO by the graph you have linked to i should already have the 3.91 gear ratio in my diff. This means that if i get a MANUAL gearbox conversion it will be perfectly matched and will increase my take-off speed.

                          So...i should expect a 0-100km/h time of about 7 sec. That's good enough for me...for the short term

                            Re: Hello from Australia

                            Better check once more your differential. The information is for the German specification. Maybe you have a different one installed. For example on my E32 the diff is a version for USA/AUS and Japan, because of speed limits in these countries. Even the 735 E32 in country specification Switzerland has a special diff because of the mountains there.
                            Best is you use the online parts catalog and go thru the different production years with different engines of the E34, and also switch from European version to US version. There are often different parts.
                            RealOEM.com BMW Parts website. This site can be used to look up BMW part numbers and approximate part prices. The Parts are grouped into diagrams and diagrams are grouped into categories and subcategories

                            Here are all US specs
                            and these are the ones for E32, also interesting for you:

                              yep....i'm 95% sure that i've got the 3.91 ratio

                              Have a look at the Australian version of the 735i. It has the same gear ratio as the 535i

                              By the way...the door fix that you posted earlier on won't work on my car. The vinyl has peel off on and under the armrest and major parts surrounding that area. On the passanger side i also have a big rip on the arm rest. I need new pannels

                              Are there any BMW Dismantlers in Deutchland that you could recommend i could contact? Prefferably someone with a website?
